Aoka provides benefits not only for travelers, but for our local community and NGO partners. Community members are able to support their families by directly generating supplementary income from the services and products they provide to Aoka’s travel itineraries. We collaborate with our partners to ensure constant income that is properly applied to initiatives for the common good of the community.
We thus created the Aoka Fund as a way to concretely channel financial support to community development projects at the sites where Aoka works.
Aoka identifies the projects to be funded by directly asking the community members what their needs are through a survey. For instance, the project may relate to building the capacity of the community’s infrastructure or its hospitality services.
Through the Aoka Fund, you can help these communities in two ways:
A percentage of what travelers like you pay for each Aoka trip is designated to the Aoka Fund. When enough funds are accumulated to begin a community project, it is then implemented.
You may choose to make an individual contribution or sponsor a specific project. If you or your company wish to sponsor the full value of a project, you are entitled site visits to monitor the project’s progress and a detailed final report of its implementation.
All resources allocated to the Aoka Fund are completely invested in the implementation of projects, with deductions only made for taxes.
You can make a difference in people’s lives. See our list of community projects that need resources and donate now!
In the Upper Vale do Ribeira region near the city of Iporanga, there lives a local elder named Nhô Jeca. He was well known in the area for selling delicious brown sugar that he produced in his wooden sugar mill for over 93 years. But today, Nhô Jeca’s great reputation for producing this local favorite is now just a memory. His mill has ceased its function for years due to age and wear; and, with it, he has lost his main source of income and a trusted worker. Through the Aoka Fund, we hope to help Nhô Jeca fix his sugar mill so that he may restore his livelihood as well the pleasure of providing this homemade treat to his community.
